Fraud and Protection Methods

Social Engineering Methods

In this method, scammers try to psychologically pressure you into obtaining your personal information. They may impersonate police officers, soldiers, prosecutors, or bank employees and aggressively demand their requests. However, you should know that bank employees and government officials will never ask for your bank account information. If you encounter such a situation, stay calm and refuse to share your personal information with strangers.

Phishing Frauds

Scammers attempt to access your personal information and bank accounts through fake emails and SMS messages. They appear as trustworthy sources and may claim that you have won a prize or owe a debt, leading you to click on fake links. To protect yourself from this method, you should not open emails that you are not sure how reliable the source is and even if you have opened them, never click on the links. In suspicious situations, you can refer to Mobile Branch or Internet banking rather than clicking on the links.

Social Media Frauds

In this method, scammers may try to obtain your personal information by reaching out to you through fake accounts. They impersonate banks or government institution accounts. To protect yourself from social media frauds:

  • Make sure that the accounts contacting you are official accounts.
  • If you have doubts, do not click on the link. Instead of this, you can manually enter the address through your browser or use the mobile application.
  • They may try to direct you to links by offering attractive campaigns. You can follow up on the current campaigns from Internet Branch or Mobile Branch.

Malicious Software

Your electronic devices are vulnerable to attacks while browsing the internet. Spyware that can infiltrate your computer, phone, or tablet puts your personal information at risk. You can protect yourself from spyware and viruses by using licensed antivirus programs. You can scan the programs and applications that you want to download to your device via antivirus. To avoid jeopardizing your computer and personal information, refrain from downloading applications or programs from unassured sources.

Fake E-commerce Websites

Scammers can easily build replicas of frequently visited websites. They try to lure customers into their trap, especially by offering advantageous prices for e-commerce. They can steal all the information related to your card during the payment process. It is recommended that you carefully examine the websites you want to shop from and manually enter the site addresses if you have doubts.
